About Impacted Families
The Impacted Families coalition was founded by Jennifer Root Bannon and Annemarie Grant, who each lost a sibling to a police interaction. Determined to turn their pain into purpose, these “Justice Sisters” are bringing together the collective voices of impacted family members across the country to advocate for accountability and transparency in policing.
If someone you know lost their life during a police interaction, you are not alone. We are a coalition led by families for families. Here, you’ll find others who have endured the pain and permanence of loss—and the trauma that never goes away. We know what it’s like to have a loved one tragically taken by those sworn to protect. We have listened as police set the public narrative while we are asked to stay silent. And we understand the anger and frustration of learning that—in cases of deadly force—police far too often are allowed to investigate themselves. That is not transparent, and has to change. #TruthMatters
